How Kitchens Might Look in the Future

Kitchen designs have come a long way in the last two decades and through the development of new technology and innovation in design, kitchens are set to fundamentally change. Consumer?s tastes and needs are changing and ecological change is also taking effect. In this article we will explore some of the ways in which kitchens might change.

Going Green
Much is being made of the environment these days and more and more consumers are looking to become more self sustainable. This both helps the environment and the individual. As a result we could see the introduction of nano garden?s. These are essentially mini gardens that would let you grow vegetables in your own home.

Nano technology has been around for a while now but developments are now being made into nano garden technology. These would be a similar size to a fridge and allow you to stack shelves of nano gardens on top of one another. This would be both economical in terms of spaces and finance. It would also reduce wastage as consumers would use what they need and let the rest continue to grow.

Smart Kitchens
We are starting to see kitchens become more and more intelligent and it is only a matter of time before every day appliances can communicate effectively. At moment there are no standard protocols for the way in which any or all appliances can communicate. This is because different manufacturers are using different technologies.

Although smart kitchens aren?t that far away the next step arguable is. These are truly intelligent kitchens. Kitchens that make use of artificial intelligence and cook a meal for you based on the ingredients you have in stock.

Manufacturers are also looking at ways to make kitchens more efficient. Things such as energy consumption can be greatly reduced and designs are now much more compact. In recent years there has been a move towards an eventual single pod kitchen. This is where everything is held one single island kitchen unit. This not only saves space but can also reduce power consumption.

Less Time in the Kitchen
Kitchens have for a long time been the focal point of a home. It is where family and friends gather and can also add a lot of value to the asking price of a property. In the future this is expected to change. Most things will be automated and it will no longer need to be one of the larger rooms in the home.

Recent studies have suggested that consumers are concerned about the amount of space and land homes now have. The limited space and changes in the climate and urbanisation are all big concerns for home owners. Many are expecting excessive lifestyles to become far less prevalent and there is a belief that this will change the kitchen landscape.

The results are interesting yet unsurprising. Kitchens are already extremely flexible and new technology and growing consumer demands can help drive this new breed of kitchens. Nano gardens and self cooking kitchens are still some way off but the concepts certainly give some food for thought.
